Suspects at large after Dover robbery

DOVER — Investigation continues into a reported armed  robbery that occurred on North Farm Drive in Dover Wednesday, Dec. 30.

A press release from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office stated it received the call via Dutchess County 911 from a male saying he was robbed at gunpoint by two male suspects. It was reported that both suspects then fled the area on foot after assaulting the victim and attempting to steal property from him.

Upon arrival deputies located the firearm suspected of being used in the robbery, and conducted a search of the area for the suspects using a sheriff’s office K-9 Unit. The sheriff’s office was assisted by the New York State Police, and the investigation is continuing by the Sheriff’s Office Detective Division. The suspects have not been located at this time. The victim, whose name was withheld, suffered minor injuries to his face as a result of being assaulted (“pistol whipped according to the sheriff’s office) during the robbery.

Despite a press release stating both suspects wore masks during the robbery, they were described as follows:

Suspect one is a white male of thin build who is approximately 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. Suspect two is a darker skinned male also of thin build and the same approximate height. The press release was accompanied by a composite drawing of the suspects, which has been reprinted here. Detectives working on the case couldn’t be reached in time for comment, but it was confirmed that there have been no updates to the case.

Anyone with more information on the case should contact the sheriff’s office at 845-486-3800.

The artistic life of Joelle Sander

"Flowers" by the late artist and writer Joelle Sander.

Cornwall Library

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.
