Sharon bridge scores December 10

SHARON — On  the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 25, there were seven-and-a-half tables for duplicate bridge at Good Neighbors on Low Road in Sharon.

The average score was 72.  North South pairs played 24 boards and East West pairs played 21 boards.

The winners: For North South pairs, in first with 96.5 points (67.01 percent) were Lois Lang and Roger Price; in second with 77 points (53.47  percent) were Tom Burke and Harry Hall, and in third with 73.5 points (51.04 percent) were Cindy Rubicam and Dick Collins.

For East West pairs, in first with 92 points (63.89 percent) were Emily and Billy Saster; in second with 75.43 points (52.38  percent) were Susan Lambrecht and Kit Kellogg, and in third with 70.86 points (49.21 percent) were Wendy Summer and John Bevan.

On Dec. 2, there were six-and- a-half tables and an average score of 70. North South pairs played 28 boards and East West pairs played 24 boards.

The winners: For North South pairs, in first with 88 points (62.86 percent) were Ann Patton and Mary Robertson; in second with 82 points (58. 57 percent) were Wendy Summer and John Bevan, and in third with 67.5 points (48.21 percent) were Doris Reeves and Harry Hall.

For East West pairs, in first with 83.42 points (59.59 percent) were Seth Milliken and George Mason; in second with 76.42 points (54.59 percent) were Emily and Billy Saster, and in third with 74.67 points (53.34  percent) were Barbara Griggs and Dick Collins.

NORFOLK — Robert J. Pallone, 69, of Perkins St. passed away April 12, 2024, at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was a loving, eccentric CPA. He was kind and compassionate. If you ever needed anything, Bob would be right there. He touched many lives and even saved one.

Bob was born Feb. 5, 1955 in Torrington, the son of the late Joesph and Elizabeth Pallone.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
