Linda Peck opens salon on Main Street

SHARON — After more than 20 years of working as a hairdresser for other businesses, Linda Peck has struck out on her own and opened L’s Hair Studio, at 81 Main St.

Peck, who lives in Amenia, is a 1982 graduate of Housatonic Valley Regional High School and graduated from the Torrington Beauty Academy in 1983.

She worked at Hair Repair Beauty Salon in New Preston for 15 years before becoming the co-owner of Covered Bridge Hair Studio in West Cornwall in 2004.

She left the studio this year to open her own hair salon.

“Why did I get into hairdressing? Because my mother told me that I needed a good career, Peck said. “A good hairstylist needs to be patient and take their time while working on a person’s hair. What seems to be popular this year is colors. Perms are not as popular as they once were.

Even though they are not popular, Peck can do perms, as well as coloring, haircuts, trimming and facial waxing.

“I love to do people’s hair before weddings and proms, she said. “I also love working on both children and senior citizens. I have a spot in the salon for children to play.

Peck said her husband, Alan, who works at Macro Tool and Machine Company in Lagrangeville, N.Y., remodeled the space, which is the former location of Studio 81 Hair Salon.

L’s Hair Studio is open Mondays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday 12 p.m. to 6 p.m., Wednesday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday by appointment. For more information call 860-364-5467.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
