Library hosts poetry festival

NEW HARTFORD — The Licia and Mason Beekley Library held the National Beat Poetry Festival on Saturday, Feb. 4.

According to organizers, the festival — which has traveled monthly to towns around the state, including Hartford, Bristol and Torrington — celebrates the legacy of Beat poets like Allen Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac. 

“When it first came out, we were reading their works,” said event organizer Colin Haskins. “But now the events mostly give local writers a venue to express themselves.”
