Joseph A. Stanton

Lakeville— Joseph A. Stanton, 80, of  Walton Street, died peacefully at home on July 8, 2009, surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Marie Therese (McWilliams) Stanton.

Joe was born in Sharon  on Sept. 14, 1928, and lived his entire life in Lakeville and Salisbury. He was a Korean War veteran and received a purple heart after suffering serious battle injuries while faithfully serving his country.

Joe was retired from SNET, where he was employed for more than 40 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler and  a loyal Red Sox fan.

Joe is survived by a son, Joseph A. Stanton Jr. and his wife, Sherrill, of Rocky Hill, Conn.; two daughters, Denise Gaynor and her husband, Tracy, of Salisbury and Marie Bushey and her husband, Patrick, of Lakeville; five grandchildren, Joseph Alexander Stanton III, Dustin Fenn, Krystal Fenn, Shawn Bushey and Tristan Gaynor; and two great-grandchildren. The family would also like to acknowledge Laurie Hoshko, his favorite niece, for her loving care during his lengthy illness.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated July 13 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lakeville. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery with full military honors. Arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon. Memorial contributions may be made to the Salisbury Volunteer Nurses Association or the SVNA hospice.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”

Blues legend Robert Cray will be bringing his stinging, funky guitar and soulful singing to Infinity Hall Norfolk on Friday, March 29.

A five-time Grammy winner, Cray has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame and earned The Americana Music Awards Lifetime Achievement for Performance. He has played with blues and rock icons including Albert Collins, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, The Rolling Stones, Tina Turner, Eric Clapton and many more.
