Joan O'Neil

WINSTED — Joan M. O’Neil, 61, died peacefully, surrounded by her family on April 13, 2009. She was the wife of Terrence P. O’Neil.

Born and raised in Branford, Mrs. O’Neill was the second child of  Marion and Norman Plant.

She was a graduate of Branford High School and received her associate’s degree in psychology from Northwestern Connecticut Community College. She settled in the Northwest Corner, where she raised her family. Prior to her retirement in 2004, she worked as a program manager for Prime Time House in Torrington for 15 years. Mrs. O’Neill enjoyed her retirement, spending time treasure hunting at tag sales and thrift shops, doing crossword puzzles and entertaining.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her three children, Amy Pardue Longhi, Matthew Pardue and Caitlin Bozetti and her husband, Henrique; her grandchildren, Samantha, Patrick Jordan and Reilly Longhi; her sister, Suzan Larpenteur and her husband, Allen, of Washington state; and her constant companion, Lloyd.

Water main cleaning in North Canaan

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
