Frank E. Wright

FALLS VILLAGE — Frank E. Wright, 89, a lifelong resident of Falls Village,died April 8, 2009, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan, after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Florence M. (Surdam) Wright.  They were married for 61 years.  

Mr. Wright was born in Falls Village on Aug. 19, 1919.  He was the son of the late Miriam (Bushey) and Hervey Wright.

He was an auto mechanic and worked for Jacobs Pontiac in Falls Village for 35 years. He worked for the town of Canaan (Falls Village) for 15 years, until his retirement in 1985.

Mr. Wright belonged to the Falls Village Fire Department for more than 60 years and served as chief for three years.

He is survived by his three sons,  Frank H. Wright and his wife, Dorothy, of Fruithurst, Ala., Eugene F. Wright and his wife, Theresa, of Falls Village,  and Gerald K. Wright and his wife, Dorothy, of Salisbury; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; four sisters, Esther Rivard of North Canaan, Shirlee Minervino of Northfield, Conn., Barbara Wood and her husband, Clark, of North Canaan, Joan Jacobsen and her husband, Arthur, of Falls Village; two brothers, Joseph Wright and his wife, Mary, of Falls Village, Hervey Wright and his wife, Marilyn, of Goshen; a sister-in-law, Amelia Wright, of Falls Village; and a brother-in-law, Bert Ball, of Great Barrington.

He was predeceased by three brothers and three sisters,  Fredrick Wright, Katherine Minervino, Robert Wright, Marilyn Ball, Gertrude Wright and Stanley Wright.

Arrangements are in the care of the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan.  Funeral services were held at the funeral home on April 14.  Burial followed at Mountain View Cemetery on Sand Road in North Canaan.  Memorial donations may be sent to the Falls Village Volunteer Fire Company and Ladies Auxiliary, Falls Village, CT 06031.

NORFOLK — Robert J. Pallone, 69, of Perkins St. passed away April 12, 2024, at St. Vincent Medical Center. He was a loving, eccentric CPA. He was kind and compassionate. If you ever needed anything, Bob would be right there. He touched many lives and even saved one.

Bob was born Feb. 5, 1955 in Torrington, the son of the late Joesph and Elizabeth Pallone.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
