Gabrielle M. 'Pinky' (Boibeaux) Irwin Ambery

FALLS VILLAGE —Gabrielle M. “Pinkyâ€� (Boibeaux) Irwin Ambery, 64, of Lime Rock Station died Dec. 2, 2008,  at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Canaan. She was the wife of Noel Ambery and the widow of James Irwin.  

Pinky was born at the Geer Hospital in North Canaan on Sept. 4, 1944, a daughter of the late Iola (Eldridge) and Felix Boibeaux.

She worked as a machinist at the Becton Dickinson Plant in North Canaan.  She retired after 28 years of employment.  She also was an EMT with the North Canaan Volunteer Ambulance Corps.  

Pinky was a poet. One of her pieces was published in “Great Poems of the Modern World, Volume II� by Capital Press in 1990.

In addition to her husband, Pinky is survived by her daughter, Carrie Irwin of North Canaan; her three brothers, Marcel Boibeaux of Sheffield, Mass., Timothy Boibeaux of Bristol, Conn., and Bruce Boibeaux of North Canaan; and her two sisters, Kathy Fellows of North Canaan and Revina Lewis of Long Island, N,Y.

A service of remembrance was held on Dec. 6 in the Newkirk-Palmer Funeral Home in North Canaan

Pinky’s family asks that flowers and prayers be omitted and that donations in Pinky’s memory be sent to the American Cancer Society, Southern New England Region, 372 Danbury Road, Wilton, CT 06897.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
