Pink's NFL Picks 10-9

This week’s record, 7-7; for the season, 44-30.

Pick of the week, 1-0; for the season 4-1.

This has to be my poorest start to the season. There seems to be any number of teams capable of pulling off an upset and when they do, they usually turn right around and get upset themselves the following week. My Pick of the Week was a gimme the way the Giants are playing, especially when you consider the caliber of teams they have been beating.

My apologies to the Steelers. Last week was the first and last time I will ever go against them. There are plenty of tough picks this week so let’s get on with it.

Sunday, Oct. 12

Chicago at Atlanta — Both of these teams are somewhat of a surprise with identical records of 3-2. I’m not sure yet how the Bears are getting it done, but I still find myself pulling for the post-Vick Falcons. This should be a fun game to watch and in the end I see the Falcons winning, 27-24.

Miami at Houston — How do you figure the Dolphins? As for Houston, they’ve lost three games on the road and they gave a game to the Colts this past week. I’m not sold on the Dolphins yet, and I believe Houston is much better than the team’s record. I’ll stick with the Texans, 20-17.

Detroit at Minnesota — Unfortunately for Lions fans, the firing of Matt Millen came years too late. As for the Vikings, they won a big road game against the Saints and appear ready to make a move in the NFC Central as many predicted. I’ll stick with Minnesota, 24-10.

Oakland at New Orleans — The Saints looked like gangbusters at the start of the Vikings game. They fell behind and rallied back to take a lead, but couldn’t hold on. The Raiders remain a mystery with a new coach and I can’t see New Orleans losing two in a row at home. I’ll take the Saints, 27-17.

St. Louis at Washington — I know I used this line last week, but if the Rams win this game there will be an investigation. I like Washington as my Pick of the Week, 33-13.

Cincinnati at New York Jets — The Bengals actually played halfway decently against the Cowboys but faded in the second half. Brett the Jet will probably be the difference at home for New York in a high-scoring game, 37-33.

Baltimore at Indianapolis — This is a big game for both teams. I’m not sure Peyton Manning has any more magic up his sleeve, but the Colts will need it if they want to beat the rough-and-tumble Ravens. As I’ve said before, I’m not a big fan of Baltimore, so I’ll take the Colts in this one, 20-13.

Carolina at Tampa Bay — This is a big division game for both teams. If Carolina can win this one on the road they open up a big lead in the NFC South. On the other hand, a victory by the Bucs draws them into a tie with the Panthers, so I’m going with the home team — Bucs win a thriller, 21-20.

Jacksonville at Denver — This week should tell us if the Jags are going to be taken seriously as the season plays out. Denver seems to find a way to win, especially at home, but I’m still pulling for Jack Del Rio and his Jags. Denver is a tough place to win a road game but I think the Jags will be up to it. Jacksonville wins, 21-17.

Green Bay at Seattle — The Seahawks look like they have packed it in already, while the Packers defense is giving up far too many points. What does that mean? This should be a real shootout and in the end I think the Packers win, 37-35.

Dallas at Arizona — The Cowboys better be on their toes against the Cards, especially in Arizona. I’d love to pick the Cards in this one, so I will, but the Dallas defense might very well get to Kurt Warner and that would spell trouble. I’ll go with my gut and take the Cards, 27-23.

Philadelphia at San Francisco — The Eagles are struggling, while the 49ers continue to show signs of improvement. I’m going to give the Eagles one more chance this week, especially if Westbrook is healthy. I’ll stick with Philadelphia, 23-19.

New England at San Diego — Both teams have been hit hard by injuries, but the Chargers remain very inconsistent under head coach Norv Turner. The Pats, with or without Tom Brady, seem to find a way to win, but not this week. I’ll take the Chargers, 24-16.

Monday, Oct. 13

New York Giants at Cleveland — The Browns will play tough defense, but they have a real problem finding the endzone on offense. As for the Giants, they continue to beat the teams they are supposed to beat and should manage to do so again this week. I’ll stick with the G-Men, 21-13.

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
