Budget public hearing April 25

CORNWALL — Proposed spending plans for the fiscal year that begins July 1 will be presented at a public hearing set for Friday, April 25, at 7:30 p.m. at Cornwall Consolidated School.

Some adjustments have been made to budget proposals for municipal and local school spending, but none reflect a bottom line change requested by the Board of Finance.

The Board of Selectmen is proposing a budget of $1,557,149. That’s a $50,630, or 3.36.percent, increase over the current budget.

The Board of Education is seeking $3,804,988 in funding for the elementary school. That’s an increase of $137,544, or 3.75 percent.

Adding debt service of $386,568 and planned capital expenditures of $565,500, total local spending is proposed for $6,314,206, a $278,048 increase, or 4.606 percent.

The hearing allows residents to ask for details or comment on budget line items, or overall spending.

Details of Cornwall’s share of the Region One budget will also be available.

A final budget proposal will go to a town meeting Friday, May 16, at 7:30 p.m. at CCS. Pending approval, the board will meet immediately after to set the mill rate.

The Region One budget goes to referendum May 6. Polls are open at Town Hall from noon to 8 p.m.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
