NORTH CANAAN — Robert "Bob" M. Miller, 74, died March 16, 2008, at Sharon Hospital. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Grace M. (Cranmer) Miller.

Mr. Miller was born April 17, 1933, in Jersey City, N.J., son of the late Mabel (Egler) and Michael F. Miller. He served in the Air Force and was a veteran of the Korean War. After moving to North Canaan in 1975, he began his painting and drywall business until he retired in 1996, but continued working in the Way Back When Antiques & Collectibles Group Shop, which he owned with Stephen O’Neil of Canaan Collectibles, until, due to illness, they closed the shop in 2005.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sue Ann Plain of North Canaan; two sons, Robert M.Miller Jr. of Sheffield, Mass., and Richard "Rick" E. Miller of North Canaan; seven grandchildren, Dara I. Miller Robinson, Shanna H. Miller Robinson, Amanda J. Miller, Samantha M. Miller, Michael J. Miller, Rebekah L. Miller and Thomas P. Hoffman; and two great-grandchildren, Collin S. Robinson Thyberg and Austin P. Hoffman.

Mr. Miller was predeceased by two sisters, Annamae Miller and Marilyn (Miller) Ryerson.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at Christ Episcopal Church on Main Street in North Canaan on Saturday, March 29, at 11 a.m. Following the memorial service, Mr. Miller’s ashes will be placed in the Columbarium on Christ Church grounds with full military honors.

Bob was born Feb. 5, 1955 in Torrington, the son of the late Joesph and Elizabeth Pallone.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

On April 23, Race Brook Lodge in Sheffield will host “Feast of Mystics,” a Passover Seder that promises to provide ecstasy for the senses.

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
