Roberta Ellsworth


AVON — Roberta Barr Ellsworth, 55, of Avon, died with her family by her side Oct. 5, 2007, after a 12-year battle with breast cancer. She was the wife of 26 years to John C. Ellsworth.

She was born in Hartford on March 6, 1952, the daughter of Dorothy (Noddin) Barr of Forestville and Robert Barr of Florida.

Besides being a home school teacher to her two youngest children, "Bobbie" was remembered as an energetic business owner and partner. She founded her promotional advertising business, Ellsworth Enterprises, about 20 years ago while winding down a 20-year career in nursing. She received her associate’s degree in registered nursing from Tunxis Community College. While managing both those careers, she and her husband were partners in Ellsworth Realty for 24 years.

Mrs. Ellsworth enjoyed the hobbies of baton twirling, French language and collecting antique perfume bottles and dolls.

In addition to her husband, she leaves three children, Sarah M. Gutierrez and her husband, John, of Colchester, Carrie L. Ellsworth and Timothy J. Ellsworth, both of Avon; one brother, Scott Barr of Vermont; a sister, Sheila Jackson of Plainville; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Joshua Ellsworth.

A funeral was held Oct. 10 at First Church of Christ Congregational in Unionville.

Tuning up two passions under one roof

Magic Fluke Ukulele Shop and True Wheels Bicycle Shop are not only under the same roof in a beautiful solar powered building on Route 7 in Sheffield, but they are also both run by the Webb family, telling a tale of familial passion, innovation and a steadfast commitment to sustainability.

In the late ‘90s, Dale Webb was working in engineering and product design at a corporate job. “I took up instrument manufacturing as a fun challenge,” said Dale. After an exhibit at The National Association of Music Merchants in Anaheim, California, in 1999, The Magic Fluke company was born. “We were casting finger boards and gluing these things together in our basement in New Hartford and it just took off,” Dale explained. “It was really a wild ride, it kind of had a life of its own.”
