Donald I. Ringwood

WINSTED — Donald I. Ringwood, 76, of 75-3 Gay St., died July 4, 2007, at Laurel Hill Health Care Center following a lengthy illness. He was the husband of the late Margaret (Brennan) Ringwood, who died in 2004.

Born in Winsted on July 26, 1930, he was a son of Elizabeth (Anstett) and Joseph Ringwood. He lived in Winsted all of his life.

Prior to his retirement, he was a supervisor for Waring Products for 48 years. He also worked at Joe’s Lunch in Winsted for many years.

He was a 1950 graduate of The Gilbert School and was a member of the Kehow Tribe of Redmen.

He is survived by two sisters, Dolores Nast of Winsted and Marjorie Palmer of Sandy Hook; seven nieces and nephews, Ann Carrozzo and her husband, Jim, Matthew Connole and his wife, Cathy, James Connole and his wife, Carmie, Elizabeth Turbarge and her husband, Robert, Susan Gaignat and her husband, Jim, Irene Maloney, and Dorothy Watson and her husband, Randy; a sister-in-law, Mamie Ringwood; 14 great-nieces and nephews; and six great-great-nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by four brothers, Robert, Richard, Maurice and Russell Ringwood; two sisters, Dorothy Connole and Shirley Ringwood; and a nephew, Michael Nast.

Funeral services were held July 7 from the Maloney Funeral Home  to St. Joseph Church. Burial was in St. Joseph’s New Cemetery with military honors.

The Cornwall Library unveiled its latest art exhibition, “Live It Up!,” showcasing the work of the late West Cornwall resident Joelle Sander on Saturday, April 13. The twenty works on canvas on display were curated in partnership with the library with the help of her son, Jason Sander, from the collection of paintings she left behind to him. Clearly enamored with nature in all its seasons, Sander, who split time between her home in New York City and her country house in Litchfield County, took inspiration from the distinctive white bark trunks of the area’s many birch trees, the swirling snow of Connecticut’s wintery woods, and even the scenic view of the Audubon in Sharon. The sole painting to depict fauna is a melancholy near-abstract outline of a cow, rootless in a miasma haze of plum and Persian blue paint. Her most prominently displayed painting, “Flowers,” effectively builds up layers of paint so that her flurry of petals takes on a three-dimensional texture in their rough application, reminiscent of another Cornwall artist, Don Bracken.

A Seder to savor in Sheffield

“’The Feast of Mystics’ was a title we used for events back when I was running The New Shul,” said Rabbi Zach Fredman of his time at the independent creative community in the West Village in New York City.
