SALISBURY, Conn. — Newcomers to the Northwest Corner learn quickly that volunteerism and philanthropy are an essential part of life here. There are dozens of organizations, most of them run by volunteers, all of them fueled by the generosity and energy of area residents.

A celebration Saturday night, June 1, under a tent at Fairfield Farm brought together a diverse collection of many of these philanthropic groups that do everything from providing arts education to creating affordable housing opportunities to protecting women from domestic abuse.
