Curling club breaks ground


NORFOLK — Almost 10 months ago, on Dec. 18, 2011, members of The Norfolk Curling Club were stunned to learn their clubhouse had been burned to the ground by two admitted arsonists.

Also destroyed was various equipment used by the club, including seasoned curling stones.

“When I got here, the whole building was engulfed, and I could hear the stones explode because the heat was so intense,” Jonathan Barbagallo, a member of both the Norfolk Fire Department and the Norfolk Curling Club, said about the blaze. “Those stones were over 70 years old, and they were unique.”
