Gabby Farkas Wooden Bat Tournament hits it out of the park

AMENIA — Softball teams from Amenia gathered at Beekman Field from Friday, Aug. 24, through Sunday, Aug. 26, for the first Gabby Farkas Memorial Wooden Bat Softball Tournament.

Farkas was a longstanding member of the Amenia Fire Company and an avid supporter and fan of baseball until his death in July 2011 at the age of 74.

Farkas was born in Hungary and came to the United States by himself in 1957. He was a lifetime active member of the Amenia Fire Company and a Yankees fan.
