Budget rejected again
WINSTED — The Winchester Board of Selectmen has been sent back to the drawing board as residents shot down a second proposed town budget for fiscal 2012-2013 at a budget referendum on Saturday, July 21, held at Pearson Middle School.
The final vote was 998 against the proposed budget and 572 for it.
Of the 6,821 registered to vote in town, a total of 1,570 voted in the second budget referendum, a decrease of 190 from the first budget referendum.
The defeated budget, which was set by the Board of Selectmen at a meeting in June, was for $31,505,896.
