WINSTED — Already down by three runs after a rough first half-inning, the Winsted Whalers proved to be resilient by combining excellent pitching with great hitting to defeat the Burlington Hunters 10-6 at home on July 1.
Darrin Gould led the team in hitting, going 4 for 5 with three runs scored. Chester Warner did his part by going 2 for 3 and plating two RBIs in the game.
Charlie Putnam contributed to the win by pitching a complete game and holding a dangerous Hunter lineup in check.
The Whalers upped their record to 7-6 with the win.
