A decade later, YMCA thrives at Geer Village

NORTH CANAAN — Few remember its original name: the Young Men’s Christian Association. To most, it’s the YMCA, or just “the Y,” a more generic term that is now its official logo.

Today, the organization boasts the same core values: caring, honesty, respect, responsibility. And it is moving from Christian-based to community-based, to be more inclusive.

The YMCA at Geer Village’s first decade has been one of growth and change, as it responds to the unique needs of the community.
