AMENIA — By day, residents can turn to Amenia Town Hall to connect with local officials and stay informed about upcoming meetings and community events. By night, they’ll find that the familiar building at 4988 Route 22 has more to offer after working hours, including a variety of exercise programs to help everyone stay fit in a fun way during the winter months.

PINE PLAINS — Whether they’re looking for a way to stay in shape this summer or to get a taste of the track and field life, Pine Plains residents of all ages are invited to stop by the track behind Stissing Mountain Junior/Senior High School to join the annual summer track program on Tuesday nights.

No relief in sight

From what I can gather, we have been spending about $3.5 billion dollars a year on over the counter heartburn relief. I think that tab is going to be considerably higher this year, given how little relief baseball bullpens have been giving embattled managers in the late innings of games, disasters that turn hair gray and stomachs sour.

DUTCHESS COUNTY — It’s never too early to start thinking about summer, and the county’s young people will be happy to learn registration for the Dutchess County Parks Division’s popular summer adventure and survival programs is now available. Open to children ages 9 through 17, the programs will once again be held at two of the county’s local parks: Bowdoin Park in Poughkeepsie and Wilcox Park in Milan.

Grace Church honors Betty Rae Nittiskie with golf tournament and dinner

MILLBROOK — With both the morning and the afternoon sessions sold out, Grace Church happily determined that its 13th Annual Golf Tournament and Dinner was a huge success, bringing in funds to help the church support the many good works that it conducts on a daily basis,. The tourney and dinner also providing a day of fun and relaxation for the 75 golfers who played at the Millbrook Golf and Tennis Club on Wednesday, July 10.

Tri-Town beats Amenia at home, 8-0

AMENIA — Just as the weather was cooling down, the Amenia baseball team was heating up the ball field, competing against Tri-Town on Wednesday evening, July 3.
The home opener attracted a good crowd of spectators and local baseball fans to Beekman Park in Amenia. From pitches thrown to the crack of the bat, the players’ intensity showed they meant business.

Racing on land, on wheels and in water

PINE PLAINS — Not even unpredictable weather could distract the athletes who competed in the Stissing Triathlon on Sunday, June 30. 
This year’s race featured a one-half mile swim at the Pine Plains Beach, a 16.5 mile bike race and a 3.3 mile run around the lake. A Children’s Triathlon was also held.
