AMENIA — By day, residents can turn to Amenia Town Hall to connect with local officials and stay informed about upcoming meetings and community events. By night, they’ll find that the familiar building at 4988 Route 22 has more to offer after working hours, including a variety of exercise programs to help everyone stay fit in a fun way during the winter months.

Every Monday and Wednesday night, the Town Hall offers an exercise class that runs from 6 to 7 p.m. Open to all interested participants, the class promotes fitness through stretching, weight lifting, flexibility...

MILLBROOK — The Tuesday, Aug. 13, Village Board meeting addressed myriad issues. For one, it was announced that the new zoning map is almost complete. Attorney Josh Mackey is working on final details. The new sign code is also in the final stages.

MILLBROOK — The Millbrook Central School District Board of Education met on Tuesday, Aug. 20. The meeting was called to order at 7 p.m. for a Code of Conduct public hearing; the first order of business was a perusal and reading of the new document, followed by a discussion of the amended code. Changes were discussed pertaining to language and legal issues. The board is nearing completion of the code’s adoption, which will be further discussed and possibly voted on at the BOE’s next meeting.

Cary Institute earns $100,000 for The Tick Project

MILLBROOK — At a relatively informal, early morning ceremony, New York State Senator Jen Metzger (D-42) presented the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies a check for $100,000, to go toward The Tick Project. With funding having been cut in 2019, this was a most welcome occurrence.
From the walkway between the auditorium and the main building, surrounded by greenery, one is aware of the beauty of this area, but also of the danger of ticks — which can be anywhere and everywhere.

MILLERTON — Strategic minds were challenged to a battle on the chess board as the NorthEast-Millerton Library hosted the Fourth Annual Millerton Chess Open on Saturday, Aug. 10. Sponsored by the library’s Chess Club, the tournament kicked off the first round of games at 10 a.m., ushering in a medley of players ages five to 75. Focusing their attention entirely on the game, the players were careful to calculate each move in their advancement across the chess board.
