Who gets notification calls in an emergency?


NORTH CANAAN — A recent emergency evacuation has prompted a closer look at mass notifications.

When an industrial-sized propane tank leaked at the Specialty Minerals plant Jan. 22, residents and businesses within a one-mile radius received two calls that morning through Litchfield County Dispatch (LCD), the region’s 911 emergency service. One call advised them of the incident and suggested they leave the area. Another, about 90 minutes later, announced that the crisis had been resolved.
