Spring break not for everyone this year


WINSTED — Students from The Gilbert School will enjoy a week’s vacation this month, April 11 through 15, but the time off will not be shared by students in the K-8 system, who faced more snow-related closures this year.

The difference in scheduling results from lost school days in February, when the town’s public schools were forced to close because of accumulated snow on rooftops, which the town’s building inspector, Marc Melanson, said was in excess of the maximum allowable weight. Heavy snow had resulted in roof collapses in other towns across the state.
