Snow on school roofs is a ‘fluid’ situation


FALLS VILLAGE — Region One School District Business Manager Sam Herrick and structural engineer Joe Marchetti went to all seven schools in Region One Friday to check on roofs — especially flat roofs bearing large amounts of heavy, wet snow.

Herrick said he and Marchetti started out Friday morning, Feb. 4, at Cornwall Consolidated School.

Marchetti inspected attics on the buildings that have them, checked ceilings for signs of cracking or distress and visually inspected exteriors.

The biggest worry is a flat roof that covers a wide area — such as a gymnasium, auditorium or cafeteria.
