Silent auction to support local farms

MILLBROOK — Tropical Storm Irene caused havoc throughout Dutchess County in August, and although the storm has passed, the damage has left local farms in trouble.

Andy Syzmanowicz, owner of Sol Flower Farm in Ancramdale, has been a vendor at the Millbrook Farmers Market for three years. His two-acre farm borders the Roe Jan River; it, too, flooded during the storm. Syzmanowicz said that he lost a total of $12,000 worth of crops planted near the river from the flooding.
