Scout master prepares to put down her compass

MILLERTON — After nearly a decade of guiding Boy Scout Troop 29 of Millerton, Amenia and Wassaic through all kinds of adventures and life lessons, Scout Master Martha Schultz is preparing to retire from her volunteer post.

“I’m slowly fading out,” she said last week, adding that after her son, Andrew, reached Eagle Scout status a few weeks earlier, her primary reason for remaining has similarly faded away. “But it’s hard to let someone else take over. I’ve been involved in scouting since my son was a first-grader. It’s been 11 years; he’s an Eagle Scout now.
