LAKEVILLE — It was one of those ice-cutting years for the annual Spring Splash at Lake Wonoscopomuc. At 11:30 a.m. Sunday, March 20, Jacquie Rice had cleared out a reasonable area off the beach at the Grove, but before the actual splashing began volunteer firefighters Tim Villano, Marie Castagna and Chris Ohmen jumped on the thick ice to break it up.

The water temperature was 31 degrees; the air temperature 44 degrees.

It was sunny, though, which helped.
