Ruth (Ryan) Alexander

FALLS VILLAGE — Ruth (Ryan) Alexander, 77, passed away peacefully after a long battle with cancer on June 16, 2011, at Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation in North Canaan. She was the widow of the late Alex Alexander.

She was born June 3, 1934, in Waterbury, Conn., the daughter of the late Julia (Maxwell) and Frances Ryan of Plymouth, Conn. Ruth was a graduate of Terryville High School.

With her second husband, Alex, who was a chef, and her family, she ran Alexander’s Village Inn in Falls Village from 1971 until 1986. She will be remembered as the hostess who greeted guests.

As innkeepers they actively supported the local community, hosting and assisting fundraisers for local families in need, as well as being great friends of the Falls Village Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary.

She then worked as a gourmet chef for International Television, Inc. and for a private family in the Berkshires.

Ruth loved cooking, decorating, entertaining, traveling, hiking, visiting Montana and most of all spending time with her family and friends, especially her three granddaughters.

She is survived by her children, Jeffrey Johnson of Falls Village, Deborah Munson and her husband, Brian, of Falls Village and Lori Lasche and her husband, Ralph, of Missoula, Mont.; her three granddaughters, Julia Munson, Claire Munson and Hannah Lasche; her sisters, Patricia Roman and Karen Fischer, both of Thomaston, Conn.; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Ruth was predeceased by her sisters, Elizabeth Watson, Julia Chiovitti and Joan LaMay, all of Thomaston, Alice Wellman of Plymouth and Rita Hennessey of Bristol, Conn.; and her brothers, Frances Ryan of Woodbury and George Ryan of Thomaston.

A celebration of her life will be held at the convenience of the family.
