Robert Allen Day

SHARON — Robert Allen Day, 86, passed away on May 12, 2011, at his home in Sharon.

He was born in New Britain, Conn., on April 8, 1925, the son of the late Hazel and William Day. He graduated from New Britain High School and, after earning his degree in physics from Yale, class of 1945W, he served in the Navy on the USS Springfield, CL66, during World War II.

Upon completion of his military service, he pursued a career in chemical engineering with Allied Chemical, BASF Corp. and Ciba-Geigy, residing with his family for extended periods in Illinois, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. He retired in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, with whom he spent 25 happy years in the home they built together in Sharon. He is also survived by his daughters, Susan Elizabeth Day of Providence, R.I., and Sarah Brewer Day, also of Sharon; and his nephew, Robert Benson Day. Mr. Day was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Perry; and by his brother, Arthur Southcomb Day.

Funeral services were held May 17.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Christ Church Episcopal or to Saint Bernard’s Church in Sharon.
