Residents evacuated as river floods Route 7

KENT — Route 7 seemed to get the worst of the flooding caused by heavy rains and snowmelt between Sunday, March 6, and Tuesday, March 8. The road itself was immersed in water at points, and large chunks of ice washed up on the roadway, damaging the guardrails as well as some cars that were parked nearby. Even the ice watch tripod disappeared (more on that in next week’s Lakeville Journal).

Several homes had to be evacuated as well. Four people were sent to Town Hall, where they were offered cots to sleep on until they could find other accommodations.
