Mabel E. Fechteler

SHARON — Mabel E. Fechteler, 97, died Aug. 6, 2011, at her home after a long illness. She was the widow of Joseph S. Fechteler Sr.

Mabel was born in Mobile, Ala., in 1914, the daughter of the late Mabel and Claude Edwards.

She was a graduate of St. Joseph’s High School in Hartford and continued her education at St. Joseph College in Emmitsburg, Md., earning a degree in economics. In 1941, she married Joseph in West Hartford.

Mabel raised her family in Larchmont, N.Y., and moved to Sharon in 1970. She was active in Dial-a-Ride and the Sharon Burial Grounds. She was also a longtime communicant of St. Bernard’s Church in Sharon.

She is survived by her sons, Frank B. Fechteler of North Canaan and William M. Fechteler of Newington; two daughters, Joan Blatterman of Virginia and Barbara (Fechteler) Peterman of Texas; 10 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by two sons, Geoffrey and Joseph Jr.

All services are private. Arrangements are under the care of the Kenny Funeral Home in Sharon.
