Library short on funds for repairs

NORTH CANAAN — Electrical storms over the summer knocked out the elevator at the Douglas Library, leaving the library with a $2,000 shortfall after repairs, according to Director Norma DeMay.

The June 1 storm that included a rare tornado in Springfield, Mass., and a storm Aug. 19 together knocked out the elevator; the August incident also disabled the alarm system.

Getting the elevator and alarm systems repaired cost $4,000 per incident; DeMay said the library’s insurance policy includes a $1,000 deductible.
