Kent will participate in Valentine’s Day event to feed homeless in New York City

KENT — For the past two years, Backcountry Outfitters has teamed up with Sister Mary Lanning of New York City to bring a “picnic in the street” to the city’s homeless for Valentine’s Day.

Lanning runs an organization called Street Corner Gourmet in Harlem. She plans meals, especially on holidays, and distributes the food to the homeless with the help of volunteers.

As the homeless are often more overlooked on this holiday than on Thanksgiving and Christmas, it can be a lonesome time of year for them.
