How to create an accessory apartment


There is a regional push going on at the moment to increase development of accessory units. The Northwestern Connecticut Regional Planning Collaborative and its HousingUs program have made available fact sheets for residents of area towns explaining the zoning regulations that govern the apartments. It takes homeowners through the steps of planning, building and renting out the apartment. Support is also available for first-time landlords, according to the Planning Collaborative’s Jocelyn Ayer.
