KENT — Harry A. Gerowe Sr., 80, of Brookfield, Conn., passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, on June 10, 2011.

Harry was a licensed lay minister, working part-time for more than a decade as the coordinator of membership care and involvement at the Congregational Church of Brookfield, where he and his wife, Evelyn, had been members since 1962.

Harry married Evelyn in 1955 in Trumbull, Conn. She survives at home.

He was a resident of the town of Brookfield for 50 years, where he served as a police commissioner from 1990 to 1999, as well as serving on the town zoning board.

He was an active member of the Brookfield Jaycees, where he served as president in the 1960s. As a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army, Harry was a part of the peacekeeping force in Germany after World War II.

He was the best dad and grandpa in the world.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three children, Dr. Catherine E. Winkler and her husband, Howard, of Newtown, Conn., Harry A. Gerowe Jr. and his wife, Rachel, of Woodbury, Conn., and Robert C. Gerowe and his wife, Heather, of Kent; and six grandchildren,Katie and Dan Winkler, Nathan and Margaret Gerowe and Ben and Spencer Gerowe.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, July 10, at 6 p.m. at the Congregational Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Congregational Church of Brookfield, 160 Whisconier Road, Brookfield, CT 06804; or Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, 405 Main St., Danbury, CT 06810.
