Everything you wanted to know about budgets but shouldn’t wait for town meeting to ask


A town budget encompasses every aspect of community life, from teaching children to read to getting rid of snow and trash. Most of the people who write the budget are elected volunteers, the friends, family and neighbors of the people who will be taxed under the new budget.

Everyone should get involved with how their tax dollars are spent, and the time to do so is now, as volunteers on town boards and commissions begin planning for the new fiscal year, which begins July 1.
