Elizabeth ‘Betty’ (Stanton) Griffiths

SALISBURY — Elizabeth “Betty” (Stanton) Griffiths passed away suddenly at her home in Beverly Hills, Fla., on Feb. 14, 2011.

She was born in New Haven, Conn., on Nov. 14, 1926, the daughter of Jessie and William Stanton.

In 1947, she married the love of her life, Douglas C. Griffiths, of Brooklyn, N.Y., with whom she shared 42 years of her life. They raised their family in Salisbury.

Betty and Doug retired to Beverly Hills in 1985, where they enjoyed the winter warmth and the hospitality of their new friends and neighbors.

Betty was a lifelong swimmer, an avid bowler and a dedicated volunteer at Citrus Memorial Hospital and Lifecare Rehabilitation Center.

Her love of travel took her all over the U.S. visiting her children as well as to the Caribbean, Mexico, Hawaii and Alaska.

Most of all, Betty was a beloved mother to her five children, Douglas Jr. of Montana, Donald of Maryland, Bonnie of Vermont, Jane of California, Betsy and her husband, Ricky, of Georgia. She was a loving grandmother to Pam Griffiths Stauffer, Melissa Griffiths, Bhrea and Kai Strand and Suzanne Vedder; and great-grandmother to Clayton Griffiths. She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

A service was held Feb. 18 at Hooper Funeral Home in Beverly Hills. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Salisbury Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association or a local hospice organization.
