Despite down economy, upbeat message from Murphy

FALLS VILLAGE — Congressman Chris Murphy (D-5) talked mostly about the economy during a Congress On Your Corner event at the Lee H. Kellogg School Monday, Feb. 7.

Murphy, who announced last month his candidacy for the Democratic nomination to succeed U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.), said that while the economic news is slowly getting better, “the problem is that a sustained and gradual recovery could take years.”

And while the federal government’s official unemployment rate fell sharply last month, from 9.4 to 9 percent, “no one is celebrating.”
