NORTH CANAAN — After six decades, a new barber in town would not seem to be an easy change. Especially when one of the last bastions of a “man’s world” has been taken over by a woman.

Bonnie Spadaccini, born and raised in North Canaan, knew she might be up against some resistance when she took over Mario’s Barbershop recently. Mario Sebben retired after about 60 years of not only cutting hair, but also of being the epicenter of the village.

It is as much about the place as it is about who is cutting hair, Spadaccini believes.
