AMENIA — Early Sunday morning, Feb. 6, heavy snow on the roof brought down a barn at Bel Aire Farm on Bangall-Amenia Road, killing 15 black Angus cattle.

Bel Aire Farm manager James Barbarie said the barn probably collapsed some time before 7 a.m. Barbarie was the second person on the scene and wasn’t sure what to do.

“After all, it’s not like you can call 1-800-barn collapse,” he said.

A quick phone call to a friend of his in the Amenia Fire Department resulted in volunteers showing up by 7:30 a.m. to help.
