At last week’s Town Board meeting, Pamela Michaud accused the Democratic Party of “a shameful miscarriage of justice”  at its caucus when members voted to nominate David Sherman rather than John Merwin to be their candidate for town supervisor.

Go-carts should be a no go
The terrible idea of having go-carts on Route 44 in Millerton is like a cat with nine lives — it keeps coming back, despite having been rejected by all of the various town bodies time and time and time again, ever since it was first proposed in 1999.

Two great Amenia opportunities
I am writing to tell people living in Amenia/Wassaic and the surrounding area of two under-utilized opportunities for activity.
One is the Amenia Free Library’s Book Shed, which offers discarded and donated books for sale (some are free) on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to noon during May to October.

About the school garden...
I want to clear up a few errors in the Aug. 11 Millerton News article entitled, “Garden Project Receives Structure,” about the garden at Webutuck School.
The garden has been one of many successful partnerships between the North East Community Center (NECC) and the school, used by teachers for classroom work and maintained by students after school and through the summer as part of NECC enrichment programs.

Worthwhile trip to D.C. to visit with service people
      American Legion Post 178 would like to thank all who participated in Operation Thank You Wounded Warrior II.
      A special thanks goes to Patty “O,” Linda Hogan, Bob Boyles, Russell Boyles and Legionnaire Larry Sands, who cooked in temperatures pushing 115 degrees in front of the grills for three hours.

Wonderful hospital care
