Generous donors for diabetes event
I would like to take this opportunity to express my thankfulness and heartfelt appreciation for all the generous donations and support Team Tavern received for the Juvenile Diabetes Walkathon.
The patrons of the Sharon Valley Tavern and the Cousins Mini Market in Wassaic, N.Y., really showed their commitment by not only donating to the cause but by also joining me on Sept. 20 at the walkathon to help raise awareness of diabetes.

A fisher is after our pet cats
I’m responding to the missing cat letter of Aug. 25. I also have a missing cat, since the last week of July. I’ve been hearing awful screeching sounds like nothing I have ever heard before in the woods behind my house, which is on Bostwick Street in Lakeville.

Where was DOT during storm?
As a dispatcher at Troop B, I worked the Sunday of Storm Irene, Aug. 28.
I would like to commend all town crews in the Northwest Corner for their response and efforts during this time.
All town crews and our state troopers, armed with chainsaws, cleared as much as possible to allow for emergency vehicle passage, while it was “too dangerous” for our state DOT personnel to be on the roads. Their overtime piled up while sitting in their garages.

A big storm’s aftermath

Letters to the Editor - The Lakeville Journal

Here’s hoping the sun is shining as you read this. That was not the case last weekend, when Irene paid the Northwest Corner a visit. While some were relatively unscathed by the heavy rains and gusting winds of the storm, many others in the region were flooded out, lost trees and/or lost power. On Sunday, Aug. 28, just about all of Cornwall and more than half of Sharon were without power. The Housatonic River reached flood stage that morning, and kept rising, and many of the river’s tributaries overran their banks as well.

Tag sale proceeds will help Habitat
As Habitat for Humanity puts the wraps on another record-breaking tag sale, several acknowledgements are in order:  The Hotchkiss School for providing a great venue along with an extremely helpful staff; tables from Salisbury School and the Lakeville Hose Company; Lynn and Tony Nania for hosting our victory party; and all our faithful  volunteers and the public for their unwavering support.

Art exhibit preview at Maxon Mills — wow!
I spent some time today viewing the open studios and the seven floors of art exhibits at Maxon Mills, home of the Wassaic Project, as they prepare for their summer festival this coming weekend.
As both an artist and a local for over two decades, I find myself ridiculously grateful that Eve and Bowie have created this perennial gathering of artists and musicians.

Disagrees with Journal’s approach to reporting town political news

Last week’s article by Patrick Sullivan on Bob Riva’s candidacy, alternative candidate slate and the Salisbury Republican Town Committee (SRTC) caucus was surprising.
