Game dinner was popular
We would like to thank the community for their support of our annual game dinner held on Feb. 25 at our clubhouse in Amenia. Our tickets were limited and we thank all of those who came.
We were able to offer over $1,000 in raffle prizes, thanks to the countless local businesses that donated items for our event. We sold out of 50-50 tickets and gave away almost $600 to the winner.

Mink pelts were stored in the old building in Kent
I would like to thank Asher Pavel for his excellent article about the Kent Historical Society’s museum, Seven Hearths (“Historical Society moving to new home in old building,” March 8). However, there is one minor correction to be made.

Chili dinner supports area
The Sharon Woman’s Club had a very successful chili dinner on Feb. 26 at the Sharon Fire House. The night was cold, the chili hot and a good time was had by all.
All funds raised support our yearly allocations to area nonprofits, so a big thanks to everyone.

This was not democratic discussion
Enclosed are some remarks concerning the Region One School District Board of Education (BOE) meeting of February.
The first part of the meeting consisted of an unscheduled species of inquisition targeting Canaan (Falls Village) Region One BOE Representative Gale Toensing.

A tribute to Ann Cooley Buckley
I’ve just seen your warm obituary (January 5) on Ann Cooley Buckley, who was surely one of the most wonderful human beings to have graced our country these past 80 years. You  speak  about  how  she  felt  she had a mission after the terrible accident that left her crippled from the neck down. That was a graceful tribute, but what I remember from that period elucidates strikingly the huge love in her character.

Christmas Bird Count honors mother
When my mother passed away in 1987, the Sharon Audubon Society honored her by establishing the Trixi Strauss Christmas Bird Count. I realize that is quite a mouthful and that “Christmas Bird Count” comes easier to the lips and to the pen.
Also, sadly there probably do not remain many of the birders with whom my mother shared so many hundreds of happy hours throughout the year.
