Nature’s Notebooks appreciated
Tim Abbott’s Nature’s Notebook articles have been a delight to read. But he really outdid himself (in my eyes) by relating Wendell Berry’s address in Washington, D.C., for us in Connecticut.
I’m a longtime fan of Berry’s writings; the essays on farming, sustainability, environment and lastly his fine poetry. A true Renaissance man. Thank you, Mr. Abbott, and thank you to The Lakeville Journal for expanding the coverage beyond the neighborhood.

A new pickup truck for Sharon
At a recent public hearing, it was proposed that the town of Sharon replace the existing 2004 Ford 350 pickup truck. A long list of problems with the truck was presented at this hearing held on April 27, including a rusted cross frame, rusted brake lines, a rusted bumper and trailer hitch and seized brake cables. The truck also needs to be realigned, needs u-joints replaced and a tuneup. It is eight years old and has about 90,000 miles on it.

Crucial Region One vote

The Lakeville Journal Editorial

Don’t miss the page of Legal Notices in this week’s paper: The details are carefully presented for voting on the referendum for the Region One budget proposal and bond issue on May 8. The sheer volume of information offered by each town and the Region One board proves the importance of this vote to the six towns affected by it.

Fond memories of Housy
Next fall, for the first time in 11 years, my wife and I will not have a son or daughter at Housatonic Valley Regional High School. Looking back, two things — the enthusiasm of the teachers at parent-teacher conferences and the good things our kids have said about so many teachers — are probably the best testimony any school could have.
The sports events, the singing, the musicals, the field trips. Watching games at the Housy fields framed by fall colors …

Spring Splash 2012 was a success
We would like to express our sincere gratitude and thanks to the more than 45 adult and children “splashers” who endured the frigid waters of Lakeville Lake to benefit the Housatonic FFA Alumni John Rice Scholarship and the Jane Lloyd Fund. We are extremely grateful to the members of the community who pledged and cheered us on.
