The ‘next’ greatest generation
The tragedy of having a large group of our youngest school children, attending the very institution we provide to teach them much of what we value as a society — massacred, by one of our own, is at the farthest edges of human understanding. We are shocked, brokenhearted, mournful — and then what?

Returned to dropper
Well, I dropped my credit card in Sharon’s parking lot.
Didn’t even notice — that’s how aware I’m not.

A Grinch stole my Christmas parade
Oh! the excitement! Christmas is coming and I must get the outside decorations up so all is in place for the Parade of Lights. The Tri-state Chamber of Commerce trees are all in place and light up both villages (Lakeville and Salisbury) and everywhere in between.

Ode to an oak
The gasps from the driver’s seat were audible.
As my husband, son and I drove southwest on Route 41, the morning after a very thankful Thanksgiving in the wake of Sandy’s wrath, we gazed out the passenger-side window, anticipating the cherished sight of the Twin Oaks. A jolt. A gasp. A downed giant . . . laid out beside his brother. Had 250 years of vitality succumbed to weather, time and the inevitable? Say it isn’t so.

I love Connecticut, too
Last week in this forum I was criticized by a longtime, elder Sharon resident as being a rigid political ideologue for asserting that Connecticut has become one of the worst states in which to live, work, start a business or raise a family. I love Connecticut, as does my critic, so it is with great sadness that I now find our state in fiscal crisis.
