Instead, the talented Highlanders once again were able to put their rivals away with crisp hitting and a deep rotation, winning 3-0.

Saving the “A” game for when it’s really, really needed

Last week: 7-7, for the season, 30-31, Pick of the week, 1-0, 3-0 for the season.

Just Sports (Frankie Petrunti): 7-6, for the season, 31-30, POW: 0-1, for the season 2-1

To set the record straight, Frankie’s picks were omitted last week, undoubtedly, because I didn’t send them in with mine. My apologies to Frank, but I promise to do better in the future.

NWR7 boys soccer leaves Gilbert in the dust

WINSTED – A game that went into the half 2-1 ended in a blowout, as the Northwestern Regional High School varsity boys soccer team (6-3) pulled away in the second half on Friday, October 7, to leave their crosstown rivals Gilbert (0-9) still searching for answers in a so far winless season.
A gouging attack and a physically imposing back line were the differences for the Highlanders as a Gilbert goal late in the first wasn’t enough to spark a Yellowjackets comeback. Northwestern took a 5-1 victory.

Brochu, who went down with a foot injury during the Oct. 4 match with Terryville, was forced to watch from the sideline as the Yellowjackets did their best to hang on without their strongest attacking presence, before eventually falling to a sharp Mills squad.
