Memento mori in a warm autumn

I have barely turned on the heat this month, and outside my basil is still alive. This is unprecedented. Despite some frosty nights, the overnight temperature inside my uninsulated, century-old house has remained in the high 50s and I have not felt the need to turn on the furnace.

2019 Elections

In all towns and in all races, there is a possibility that minority representation rules or other regulations will kick in and determine who takes a seat on a board or commission. Voters are recommended to simply vote for the candidates they think will do the best job.

In Cornwall, the contested seats are treasurer, where one of the two candidates will be selected; and Zoning Board of appeals, where one of the two candidates will be seated.

Cast those ballots! Early voting helps move Dutchess County toward Election Day

DUTCHESS COUNTY — If Dutchess County Board of Elections Commissioner Elizabeth Soto’s hopes are realized, locations all around the county will be filled with residents proudly sporting “I voted” stickers — even before Halloween candies have all been purchased.
The possibility is the result of the state-wide voting law that was put into effect on Jan. 1, which will allow early voting between Saturday, Oct. 26, and Sunday Nov. 3, at five locations throughout the county.

Bunker Hill in Cornwall is named, not for a particular historical event, but for the early 19th century Rufus Bunker homestead.
