Norman William Wilcox

SHARON — Norman William Wilcox passed away on July 13, 2019, at Sharon Hospital at the age of 91. 

He was the son of Julia (Bowne) and Albert D. Wilcox.  He lived all his life in Sharon. He was married to Catherine (Palmer) Wilcox for 65 years.

Norman dedicated his life to the family dairy farm until 1974. He then joined the Maintenance Department at Sharon Hospital, where he worked for 18 years.  

John Adam Moody

MILLERTON — John Adam Moody, 85, died June 27, 2019, at Inova Hospital in Lansdowne, Va. He had been a resident of Millerton for 51 years. 

John was born on Jan. 24, 1934, to the late Millie and Charles Moody.  

He married Mamie (Kornegay) Moody on Sept. 18, 1960.

All of us here in Salisbury should take pause.  A truly caring and devoted person recently left us.  Whitney North Seymour Jr. (“Mike”) died June 29, 2019, following his wife, Catryna, by a few months.  

Lawrence Everett Charity

SOUTH KENT — Lawrence Everett Charity, 83, of South Kent, died at his home in the arms of his beloved wife, Suzanne, in the early morning hours of June 2, 2019. His sudden death from respiratory failure resulted from complications of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease.

Frances Allen Yerkes

SALISBURY — Frances Allen Yerkes, 70 years old, died on July 12, 2019, at her home in Salisbury. A resident of the town for 32 years, she was a generous caregiver to many as a nurse, an EMT and as a mother and friend.

Franny was born on Jan. 7, 1949, in New York City, the daughter of Elizabeth and Yorke Allen Jr. She grew up in New Canaan, Conn., attended Bennington College, and received an M.B.A. from Columbia Business School. 

Elmore Rual ‘Rip’ Torn

LAKEVILLE — Rip Torn, one of the leading stage actors of his generation and an Emmy Award-winner for his portrayal of the deliciously devious producer Artie on HBO’s “The Larry Sanders Show,” has died. 

Torn passed away peacefully July 9, 2019, at his home in Lakeville at the age of 88, with his wife, Amy Wright, and daughters Katie Torn and Angelica Page by his side. 

Hatty S. Butts

MILLBROOK — Hatty S. Butts, 75, a lifelong area resident, died July 8, 2019, at her home.  

Mrs. Butts was a custodian at Webutuck High School in Amenia for 15 years, retiring in 2014.  

Born on Oct. 24, 1943, in Wassaic, she was the daughter of the late Helen (Chase) and Raymond Wheeler.  

On July 8, 1961, in Wassaic, she married Robert R. Butts Jr., who survives at home.  

Christopher Kupferer

MILLERTON — Christopher Kupferer, a newspaper editor whose quick and wicked wit, abundant intelligence and deep caring for colleagues, friends and family was undergirded by a dark and humorous cynicism, died of a heart attack July 5, 2019, at his home in North Wales, Pa. He was 56.

John ‘Jack’ Wandell

FALLS VILLAGE —  John Wandell,76, passed away at home on June 17, 2019, in Falls Village with his wife, Linda Erwin, and family by his side.

He was born on April 4, 1943 in Lowell, Mass., to Charlotte and John Wandell.

Thomas Nelson Osborne

WEST CORNWALL — Thomas Nelson Osborne, 54, of Fleischmanns, N.Y., drowned in an accident there on June 19, 2019. 

Born July 4, 1964, in New York City, Tom graduated from Fieldston School and attended the Mannes College of Music, receiving bachelor’s and master’s degrees. 

He later studied medicine at St. Georges University Medical School in Grenada and Manhattan, with a residency in Binghamton, N.Y.

An earlier marriage ended in divorce.

Tom is survived by his mother, Isabelle Osborne of West Cornwall.
