Craig Alan Summers

MILLERTON — Craig Alan Summers, 76, a lifelong Millerton resident, died unexpectedly on Sept. 15, 2019, at Sharon Hospital.

Mr. Summers recently retired following a 26-year career with the Salisbury School, where he worked as the gymnasium supervisor. 

Born Feb. 3, 1943, in Sharon, he was the son of the late Ruth and Lionel Summers. He was a 1961 graduate of Webutuck High School.  

On June 4, 1961, in Carmel, N.Y., he married Bonnie Hoag. Mrs. Summers survives at home. 

Robert D. Tompkins

SHARON — Robert D. Tompkins, 68, passed away on Aug. 28, 2019, at his home in Sharon after a brief illness. 

He was born on Nov. 29, 1951, in Pleasantville, N.Y., and was predeceased by his mother, Louise W. Carter, and step father, Lawson A. Carter of Salisbury; his sister, Carol T. Montgomery of Norcross, Ga.; and his father, Douglas H. Tompkins.

Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Monaco

SHARON — Mary Elizabeth (Brown) Monaco, 94, of Wellington, Fla., and Sharon, passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2019, in Wellington. 

Mary was born to the late Carlton Fiske Brown and Elizabeth Wade Kimball Brown of Marblehead, Mass., on Dec. 28, 1924 at Marblehead’s Mary Alley Hospital.

Raymond Edward Ovitt Sr.

FALLS VILLAGE — Raymond Edward Ovitt Sr., 83, of Falls Village died at home on Aug. 22, 2019.

He was a devoted and loving husband to Marie (Parmalee) Ovitt.

He was the loving father to Suzanne Palmer, Raymond Ovitt Jr., Marcy Brown, Cindy Rood, Leslie McDermott and James Ovitt; and grandfather to 14 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of his life will be held at Harvest Baptist Church in New Hartford.

Judith Suzanne Becker

NORTH CANAAN — Judith Suzanne Becker died Aug. 20, 2019, at her home in North Canaan after a brave battle with cancer. 

She was a long-time resident of Salisbury. 

She was born Jan. 30, 1940, in New Rochelle, N.Y., to Laura M. and Raymond H. Becker. 

Judy graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School in 1957; earned her BA from Trinity College in Washington, D.C., in 1961 and two master’s degrees from Rutgers University (Library Science, in 1962 and Bio Chemistry in 1967). 

Ronald A. Bartizek

LAKEVILLE — Ronald A. Bartizek, 72, of Dallas, Pa., died Sept. 6, 2019,  in Dallas. The cause of death was complications of multiple myeloma, a blood cancer, which was diagnosed in 2010.

Ron was born Aug. 16, 1947, in Willimantic, Conn., the son of the late Phyllis (Hoxie) and Albert Bartizek. At that time, the family lived in Lebanon, where both the Hoxie and Bartizek families had been engaged in farming. He was a 1965 graduate of Windham High School and attended the University of Connecticut at Storrs and Northwood Institute in Midland, Mich.

Jeanne L. Allen

WASSAIC — Jeanne L. Allen, 90, a longtime resident of Wassaic, passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2019, at her home in Wassaic, surrounded by her loved ones. 

Ms. Allen was the director of pupil personnel services at Valley Stream Central School District, retiring in 1984. 

Born on June 19, 1929, in Tannersville, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Suzanne (Worth) and Harold Allen. 

In appreciation: Augusta ‘Dolly’ Taylor

The family of Augusta “Dolly” Taylor would like to extend our gratitude to  the nursing staff at Geer Nursing for their care and compassion for Dolly for the past 11 years.

The staff at Geer makes all the difference, especially  at Cardinal Court. Their ability and willingness to go above and beyond their normal duties is truly amazing. 

And a special recognition to nursing assistant Leslie and nurses Mary and Dan. A heartfelt thank you to all of  you.

Mrs. Taylor passed away on Aug. 22, 2019, at 91 years of age. 

Shawna Rae Westfall

COPAKE — Shawna Rae Westfall died Sept. 3, 2019.

Shawna was born May 16, 1994, to Martin and Patricia (Hart) Westfall in Sharon. She lived in Copake, N.Y. 

She was a Daisy and Brownie in the Girls Scouts of America. She was also in the Hoofers 4H group and showed her calf at the Chatham Fair and she would later train the calves for the fair.

She was baptized at the Ancramdale Presbyterian Church and had her First Communion at St. Bridget’s Church in Copake Falls.

Margaret Ann (Shannon) Parker

SALISBURY — Margaret Ann (Shannon) Parker, 69, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Kill Devil Hills, N.C., on Aug. 28, 2019. She was a  longtime resident of Pleasant Valley, N.Y., and Salisbury. 
She was the wife of Charles V. Parker. They shared 47 years of marriage together.
Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y.,  she was the daughter of George and Alice Shannon.
