Edward P. Sweeney Jr.

STANFORDVILLE — Edward P. Sweeney Jr., 93, passed away early on Oct. 7, 2018, at The Thompson House  in Rhinebeck, N.Y.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1925, in Johnstown, N.Y., the son of Gertrude (Borst) and Edward P. Sweeney Sr. 

He was a World War II veteran and served in both the Army and Navy from 1941 to 1946.

Gaelen Michael Schwindt

SHARON — Gaelen Michael Schwindt, 22, passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident in Sharon on Oct. 3, 2018. The beloved son of Julie Hill Schwindt and Jeffrey T. Schwindt, he was the cherished younger brother of Connor and Brianna Schwindt, and a role model for his very young half-siblings. He was the longtime boyfriend of Emily Andrews. 

Born in Falls Village, Gaelen lived in Sharon for most of his life.

Roger S. Lougheed

PINE PLAINS — Roger S. Lougheed, 78,  passed away on Oct. 7, 2018, at Sharon Hospital.

He was born on Feb. 20, 1940, in Patterson, N.Y., a son of the late Sara E. (Finney) and Starr W. Lougheed.

Mr. Lougheed proudly served his country with the United States Navy from 1958 to 1960 in Newfoundland.

A well-known and respected union butcher and meat cutter, Roger had been employed by many local groceries and most recently by the Round Tuit Restaurant.

In 1962 in Carmel, N.Y., he married Eleanor Forste, who survives him.

JoAnn (Luminati) Plante

NORTH CANAAN — JoAnn (Luminati) Plante of Huntington Beach, Calif., formerly of North Canaan, died at home on Aug. 21, 2018, after a courageous battle with cancer.

JoAnn was born on Aug. 22, 1949, the daughter of the late Rose (Vernali) and Joseph Luminati of North Canaan.

JoAnn  graduated from Housatonic Valley Regional High School and Eastern Connecticut State University, where she met and married the love of her life, Alan Plante, who survives at home. 

Sandra Louise ‘Sandy’ (Chase) Pilares

SHARON — Sandra Louise “Sandy” (Chase) Pilares, 59, of Canton, Conn., passed away peacefully on Oct. 9, 2018, surrounded by her family and friends.  

She was a wonderful and caring mother, daughter, sister, and friend.

Sandy was born on June 24, 1959, in Sharon, to Alice (Cookingham) and David Chase.

Sandy’s caring and compassionate demeanor was characteristic of her long career as an ICU nurse, having worked at Good Samaritan Hospital in San Jose, Calif., and the University of Connecticut Health Center in Farmington.

Ronald G. Pezze

NORTH CANAAN — Ronald G Pezze, 84, passed away Oct. 5, 2018, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Duluth, Minn., after a brief illness. 

He was born on July 4, 1934, to Amelia (Veretto) and John Pezze in Great Barrington and grew up in Sheffield, Mass.

Ronald was a veteran of the Navy, serving during the Korean War. 

He attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering and worked as the chief engineer for the Milwaukee Spring Company and then as a resort/restaurant owner with his wife in Iron River, Wis.  

Hella DeSimone

SALISBURY — Hella DeSimone (née Helene Anna Fliegenschmidt) was born Aug. 31, 1929, in New York City, and died peacefully in her Salisbury home on Oct. 3, 2018.

Predeceased by her husband, Lou, in 2003, she is survived by her five children: Lois, Peter, Lisa, Donald and Douglas; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Ann E. (Rutledge) Polowa Miller

NORTH CANAAN — Mary Ann E. (Rutledge) Polowa Miller was born in North Canaan on Sept. 26, 1939, to Ann and Leonard Rutledge. 

She was raised in a multigenerational home: three generations living and working at her grandfather’s hotel.

Peter Kuba

LAKEVILLE —Peter Kuba, 75, of Lakeville died Oct. 5, 2018, at Englewood Community Hospital in Englewood, Fla.

Peter was born Aug. 20, 1943, in Reichenberg-Sudetenland. In 1945 his family (mother, grandmother and two brothers) were forced to flee that area relocating to Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, and making that home.

Doris Barbara Bianchi

NORTH CANAAN — Doris Barbara Bianchi, 87, died peacefully with her family around her, on Oct. 9, 2018, at the Geer Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, where she resided the last two years. 

Doris was born on April 22, 1931, in Weehawken, N.J., and spent the majority of her life in Union City and Jersey City, N.J. Throughout her life, she attended various day programs that served individuals with disabilities. She loved school and “work,” and had many friends.
